With over 400,000 Texas Retired Teacher receiving retirement benefits annually, the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) operates the 13th largest trust fund in the world. But due to a major rise in the cost of living and of healthcare, our educator retirees are struggling to make ends meet with the current pension and healthcare benefits that they receive.

As a top priority this legislative session, I have been working to help address this issue with my colleagues through several measures that include increasing funding to the TRS pension fund and to the TRS-Care fund.

Our teachers are charged with the major responsibility of molding Texas' future through the education of our children. It is our duty to provide the dedicated educators of our state with adequate enough support so that they may retire with peace of mind and live out their lives comfortably.
