Committee Evaluates State, Local Recovery Efforts Relating to Tourism

AUSTIN - Representative Ryan Guillen (D- Rural South Texas) is excited to announce that the House committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism met to discuss how tourism in Texas is recovering from Hurricane Harvey and ways to improve that recovery.

"The beauty and uniqueness of our natural landscapes capture the heart of anyone that visits this great state of ours," said Guillen. "It is my hope that this committee meeting will work to protect this valuable resource."

The committee meeting was held last week at the Brownsville City Commission Chambers in Brownsville City Hall. They reviewed the economic, recreational and biological impacts of Harvey as well as the needed repairs as they relate to state agencies, travel and tourism. The committee expects to make recommendations on timely recovery of these areas and how to best prepare for future natural disasters.

Representative Guillen advocates for continued support of our local businesses during this recovery period. While Hurricane Harvey battered the coast, Guillen assisted Texans connect with state and local resources. His efforts lead to the restoration of power to multiple businesses, residences and a nursing home. Guillen urges his constituents to monitor this hearing and offer feedback.

"It is not just the awe-inspiring landscapes, but the culture of Texas, which draws visitors to our home," said Guillen. "Assisting the industries that preserve the spirit of Texas is something that I will always support."

Serving ten rural South Texas counties in the Texas House of Representatives, Ryan Guillen is known for his hard work, fierce independence, and relentless efforts for South Texas families. Recently, Capitol Inside called him a “House Bill Machine,” and a “one-person assembly line for legislation.” Since elected, few other legislators have passed more bills than Guillen.
