TX AFL-CIO Renews Guillen Endorsement For  November Election

AUSTIN - The Texas AFL-CIO has announced their endorsement of Representative Ryan Guillen (D - Rural South Texas) in the November 2018 General Election. As a perpetual fighter for working men and women, Guillen expressed his gratitude for the recognition.

"As someone who has always been a part of a working family, I recognize the positive impact organizations such as the Texas AFL-CIO can have on people's lives," said Guillen. "They have worked endlessly to improve conditions for working people, and I am proud to work on legislation that will further our shared cause."

Since his election, Guillen has worked to improve the lives of working families in Texas, with a special focus on improving economic and workforce development, and bringing good jobs to South Texas. In 2010, Guillen was instrumental in securing $1 billion in funding for economic and workforce development, and he has helped that number grow  to $3.3 billion. These funds are allocated to programs such as the Texas Enterprise Zone which focuses on local communities by helping them bring in new jobs while facing economic distress. Rep. Guillen has also helped direct at least $156 million to the people of District 31 for workforce development programs that help job seekers attain education, training and support services needed to secure employment. Guillen's efforts have led to a decrease in unemployment in his district from 9.6% to 6.3%, and his district has seen an increase in average yearly wages of approximately 8%.

"We have accomplished so much in the past few years, but more remains to be done so I will continue to fight every day on behalf of the working families in South Texas," Guillen added.

The Texas AFL-CIO is a state labor federation with 235,000 affiliated unions members. They focus on helping working people in Texas by pursuing legislation and representing them in political arenas, striving to give them a fair shot. The organization's efforts range from prevailing wage laws, project labor agreements, and supporting other unions to the expansion of health care to more working poor Texans.

Serving ten rural South Texas counties in the Texas House of Representatives, Ryan Guillen is known for his hard work, fierce independence, and relentless efforts for South Texas families. Recently, Capitol Inside called him a “House Bill Machine,” and a “one-person assembly line for legislation.” Since elected, few other legislators have passed more bills than Guillen.
