GUILLEN SUPPORTS GREEN ENERGY INCENTIVES
Individuals Can Purchase Qualifying Items Sales-Tax Free
AUSTIN - Representative Ryan Guillen (D- Rural South Texas) encouraged Texans to take advantage of the upcoming Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday for energy-efficient products.
"Providing these economic incentives leads to increased economic growth," said Guillen. "Sales tax holidays are one of the best means we have to ensure that the 'Texas Miracle' will continue and that it will benefit all Texans."
This sales tax holiday began Saturday, May 26 and went through midnight on Monday, May 28. Texans could purchase Energy Star-labeled items tax free, including: air conditioners, refrigerators, ceiling fans, incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs, clothes washers, dishwashers, and dehumidifiers. There was no limit on the number of qualifying items you can buy.
Representative Guillen is a longtime supporter of assisting Texans financially through cutting taxes and reducing bureaucracy. Continuing this tradition, Guillen supported the recent Homestead Exemption increase that allowed home owners to reduce the value of their home by $10,000 for tax purposes. Guillen also was an author of a bill that reduced the franchise tax by 25%, improving economic activity and the creation of additional jobs. In addition, Guillen has helped cut taxes over 50 times since he took office.
"Allowing Texans to purchase energy-efficient products tax free is a common sense way to help Texans and their families while also reducing our carbon footprint," said Guillen.
