GUILLEN URGES ACTION FOR FALCON LAKE

Historically, Falcon Lake Reservoir, located in Starr and Zapata counties, has stood among the best places for bass fishing in the world. Yet this title is no longer applicable, as the bass population in Falcon Lake has declined in recent years. The reduced number of bass has not only hurt the lake's fishing industry, but has had a negative impact on the local economy as well. Local fishermen claim that an abundance of alligator gar in the lake is the primary cause for the declining bass population.
